Blog 5: CHANGES TO MY STUDY PROGRAMME
Hello everyone, I am a second year dental student at the University of Chile, it is a fairly small school but academically it is considered the best in the country.
Although the education and training provided to future professionals is good, it could certainly improve many aspects.
I think one of the main problems of this career is its cost, since it involves the purchase of many materials and also the procurement of patients for the treatments we must perform, I think it is very unfair that if a patient does not come to the clinic we have to pay the consequences by failing the course, this must be changed urgently.
Also the academic load is very heavy, especially in the last weeks of the semester, where there are too many evaluations, homework and assignments.
On the other hand, if we talk about the infrastructure of the faculty, there are only two large classrooms for classes (considering that we are approximately 120 students per generation), and the dining room is very small, always lacking chairs and tables where students can sit and eat comfortably.
In addition, it does not have green areas, which in my opinion are essential for students to have some distraction and, finally, the few parking lots that the faculty has.
I believe that if we improved at least 30% of these problems, students would be much better off and there would be better results. We need more visibility within the health careers, since dentistry is a very important area.
